Freight fuel surcharges
The fuel surcharge is calculated based on the daily closing price of a barrel of Brent crude oil in dollars. The BAF is triggered when the two-week average price exceeds $60 per barrel.
Freight fuel and EU ETS surcharges
Since 2 January 2023 the new fuel surcharge model or BAF will apply on the routes Tallinn-Helsinki-Tallinn, Tallinn-Stockholm-Tallinn, Paldiski-Kapellskär-Paldiski, Helsinki-Stockholm-Helsinki and Turku-Stockholm-Turku
The fuel surcharge is valid for two weeks from Monday to Sunday. The fuel surcharge rate will be announced by written statement on Thursday before the surcharge comes into effect.
The BAF is triggered when the two-week average price exceeds $60 per barrel. If the two-week average is below $60 a barrel, the surcharge is automatically removed for the next two weeks.
The basis for calculating the expense of cost resulting from the European Union’s emissions trading system, i.e. the EU ETS, is the nearest-term CO2 quota future ton price in euros (source: Energy – Bloomberg).
